WALCOT: A fire crew “used their ingenuity” to release a toddler and baby from a locked car.

The Swindon firefighters were sent to Courtenay Road, Walcot, shortly after 1pm on Saturday, June 16. Two children, a six month-old and a two-year-old, had managed to lock themselves in a car. The car’s engine was still running.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters used their ingenuity to help release the children from the vehicle.”

M4: Firefighters were called to reports of a M4 lorry fire. A crew from Royal Wootton Bassett fire station and one from Westlea found smoke coming from the lorry’s brakes. They used a thermal imaging camera to identify the source of the smoke and made it safe.

Crews were called at around 3.45am on Saturday, June 16. The lorry had stopped between junctions 15 and 16.

EAST WICHEL: A primary school got a soaking in the early hours when fire alarms activated the sprinkler system.

Firefighters from Swindon fire station were sent to reports of an alarm sounding at East Wichel Primary School at around 3am on Saturday, June 16.

When they arrived they could find no fire, but the sprinkler system alarm had been activated, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
