HUNDREDS of hungry office workers were fed meaty breakfast butties.

Old Town restaurant Helen Browning’s Chop House handed out the free breakfasts as part of the annual Wake Up to Organic day.

The national event is intended to promote organic food and farming. Shops, cafés and restaurants across the country took part in the promotional day, but the Wood Street chop house was the only Swindon business involved.

Anne Roberts, manager, said: “There nothing pumped into organic food that shouldn’t be there. Our meat comes from Eastbrook Farm, seven miles away up on the Ridgeway.

“We’ve done 300 portions. We started at 6.10am this morning, after finishing at 11 last night.

“Our sausages are available in all Morrisons shops in the south west. The bacon is available in Sainsbury’s. There’s no gluten in any of our meat.”

Hannah Pajak, 30, a teacher from Old Town: “I think it’s really important to know where your food comes from, whether it’s meat or veg. It’s nice to eat locally.”

The next free breakfast giveaway organised by the Chop House is likely to be at the end of the year.
