HEARTWARMING letters from schoolchildren to unpaid carers brought a lump to teachers’ throats.

Youngsters in a year five class at Covingham Park Primary School wrote the notes for national Carers Week.

One Rowan class pupil wrote: “I’m sure the people you help are happy to have such a bright star like you in their life.”

Another said: “Thank you for all you do. You are really making a difference in this world.”

The school was in the news before Christmas when pupils wrote Christmas cars to carers in Swindon. Sarah Blackwell, young carers lead at Covingham Park, said: “When I emailed Swindon Carers’ Centre’s Ann Giles I set, yet again these cards will melt your heart. The messages are just so heartfelt.”

Class teacher Ria Chitroda said her pupils had heard from young carers at the school before writing the letters. Out of around 360 children at Covingham Park, 14 are registered carers.

Ann Giles, who runs the young carer programme at charity Swindon Carers Centre, said of the letters: “They were really lovely and so caring.”

The cards will be shared with unpaid carers supported by the Swindon charity.
