Cocaine find

COURT: Magistrates ordered a man to pay more than £1,300 after he was caught with cocaine and cannabis. The drugs were found in Daniel Bennett’s possession on April 13. The defendant, 30, of Cricklade Road, Highworth, pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared before the Swindon bench.He was fined a total of £1,166 and told to pay a £70 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs. The magistrates ordered the destruction of the drugs.

Series of thefts

COURT: Drug addict Shane Watson was ordered to undergo treatment for his dependency and pay more than £700 compensation.

Watson, 36, of Burnham Road was told he must do 100 hours of unpaid work after he admitted stealing diffusers valued at £200 from Next, console games worth £200 from Morrisons, headphones priced at £220 from Currys and goods worth £150 from Rowlands Pharmacy. Swindon magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with a victim surcharge and court costs totalling £170.

Cash stolen

COURT: A thief who stole £300 cash from a victim in Swindon now has to pay £535.

Michael Joyce, 52, of Centenary Way, Bovey Tracey, Devon pleaded guilty to the theft carried out on March 9. Swindon magistrates told him to pay £300 compensation with a £120 fine, costs of £85 and £30 victim surcharge.

Over the limit

COURT: Magistrates handed down a 16-month ban to Jeffrey King after he was caught over the drink drive limit in Brinkworth. King, 76, of Wood Street, Clyffe Pypard, admitted the charge. The bench heard tests revealed a level of 126 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. The limit is 80. He was fined £321, with £32 to victim services and £85 costs.
