A NON-PROFIT workshop company is inviting people to an open day to check out its new facilities on July 8.

Swindon Makerspace is a learning centre where budding handymen and women come to practice their skills in woodwork, metalwork, electronics and other crafts. After thousands of hours of volunteer power the centre in Cheney Manor has expanded to a size of 1,600 square ft.

Director Scott Jordan said: “We are excited to open our doors to the public. It will give us the opportunity to show off our new workshops and the brilliant equipment, it will also be an opportunity to ask the public what they like to make."

“The Makerspace has a diverse membership, members age from 18 to 77, and members can also bring a young person below the age of 18.”

Run by its members, Makerspace has a range of tools for creative workers to try out including a laser cutter, 3D printers, CNC mills, lathes, bandsaws and a host of electronic gadgets such as oscilloscopes and power supplies. Anyone interested in testing out the various workshop areas can come to the open day, have a chat with members and take inspiration from the projects on show.
