CHILDREN at an Old Walcot primary school have been warned of the danger of talking to adults they don’t know.

It follows reports of a man lurking in bushes near Lainesmead Primary School.

Headteacher Eirian Painter wrote to parents earlier this week letting them know about the police reports.

She told the Swindon Advertiser: “Because we take safeguarding so seriously, as does any school, our main priority is the safety and well-being of our children.

“We have reminded the children of ‘Stranger Danger:’ something we talk about regularly as a school.

“To reinforce this, the letter was sent to parents to ask for their vigilance as well as enabling them to follow up our lesson with a discussion at home about stranger danger. All staff are also vigilant to this individual returning.

“We wanted to be proactive in ensuring that the first step to take if anyone spots this male is to inform the police as a matter of urgency. Should we feel it necessary, the school would deploy its lock down procedures.

“I would urge anyone who knows any information regarding the incidents to contact the police immediately.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said:”We have received reports from parents in relation to a male acting suspiciously in this area. Local officers, who patrol around and near to the school, are aware and have been speaking with the school so we can work together to deal with this matter.”
