SWINDON’S Elliot Pinson claimed a podium finish at round three of the Dickies Junior Supersport Class of the British Superbike Championship.

Pinson was second fastest on the SymCirrus Motorsport Kawsaki Ninja 400 in free practice on Friday at the Snetterton circuit, and went on to take his second pole position of the season in qualifying by 1.524 seconds.

The first race on Saturday saw Pinson make a poor start, dropping back to fourth place, three seconds behind the leader by the end of lap one.

Using the pace he had shown in qualifying, Pinson was able to lap around one second faster than the leader and caught and passed him on lap four.

From then on it was a close battle between the Wiltshire rider and championship leader Eunun McGlinchey, swapping positions every lap.

On the penultimate lap, Pinson made a mistake while leading and ran off the kerb, causing the bike to have a head shake that in turn forced the brake pads apart.

Managing to stay on the bike as he sped across the grass, Pinson held enough of a lead over the following riders to finish the race in second.

Starting from that position in the second race of the weekend, Pinson again went wheel to wheel with McGlinchey, setting a new lap record as they broke away from the rest of the field.

At the final corner, McGlinchey crashed and slid into the back of Pinson, taking them both out of the race.

The next round is July 6-8 at Knockhill in Scotland.
