A SWINDON resident has been put forward for a health watchdog award.

The individual, whose name has not been published, challenged a NHS decision against awarding their relative cash to manage a long-term health condition. They have been shortlisted by Healthwatch England’s #ItStartsWithYou award.

Healthwatch said the nominee had been helped through the appeals process by Healthwatch Swindon’s independent complaints advocated: “Following a review of the new information the decision was made that the Continuing Healthcare Funding would be awarded to the person’s relative.”

The award winners will be announced at Healthwatch’s conference in October.

Imelda Redmond of Healthwatch England, said: “It’s heartening to see a growing culture of people sharing their experiences. It might just feel like your story, but if it matters to you, it matters to us, and it really can make a difference”

Healthwatch Swindon’s Jason Ferris added: “Do health and care services know what you really think? No matter how big or small the issue, we want to hear about it.

“Your ideas and feedback can shape future care services including the NHS.”

“We would encourage all local people to speak up about their ideas and experiences of health and social care in Swindon by completing our quick survey via www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/itstartswithyouswindon2018.”
