DETECTIVES investigating a town centre stabbing have arrested a 32-year-old man.
Police were called around 5.20am on Sunday morning after reports of a fight near Debenhams.
A 22-year-old man was taken to Great Western Hospital. It is understood he was stabbed in the arm on the footpath between Fleming Way and the John Street car park.
At 3.15am on Monday morning, police arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody at Gablecross police station.
Officers searched flowerbeds at the Tri-Centre, after reports that the weapon had been stashed in the bushes. A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: “Searches were carried out but no weapon was located.”
The cause of the fight is unknown.
It is the latest stabbing to hit Swindon this year. Last month, a man walked into GWH with serious injuries to his head and chest and a stab wound to his leg after a fight in Walcot. A 17-year-old was arrested. The month before, forensics officers sealed off Dryden Street in the town centre, after a trail of footprints were left in blood. Police later said the man, 30s, had stabbed himself in the leg.
Anyone who witnessed the latest incident is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
