A POP-up street party appeared on an Old Walcot street, after it was closed by council contractors.
Upham Road was sealed off last week. The council expects resurfacing works will take around six weeks.
But residents have been making the most of the quiet conditions. Children have used the road as a hockey pitch and cycle track.
And now grown-ups have been getting in on the action. Dee Vaughan, who has lived on Upham Road with her family for 14 years, brought neighbours and friends together for what she described as the “world’s smallest street party”.
The 66-year-old said: “We got a bottle of wine and I have some pink garden furniture. So many people were walking past smiling, waving and chatting.”
Now, she’s thinking of planning a proper street party for the neighbourhood: “This could be so nice if we had some time to think about it and plan it. When would you ever be able to close Upham Road to have a street party and maybe raise some money for charities?
“We’ve got such a nice community along here, but we never see each other because the road’s so busy.
“It’s been like a festival atmosphere.”
