An award-winning entrepreneur is shouting about the benefits shared office space can bring to small businesses.

Matt Greenwood, 23, set up Desk Co-Work in Old Town just over two years ago, an open-plan collaborate and flexible working space.

“There’s a lot to be said for the camaraderie and the human interaction that you get in an office,” said Matt.

“We have a lot of members who use each other’s services and go in on projects together.

“When you’re a freelancer quite often if you’re trying to land a bigger customer, you might need a few periphery services which you might not currently offer.

“Suddenly we have a collaborative space where we have all these people in the same room that can help you with your customers.”

Matt was nominated by a couple of his members at Desk Co-work to the Great British Expo business awards and went on to win Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in January.

While studying businesses at university in Milan he developed an app with friends to book night club reservations in the city.

After leaving Matt returned to Swindon and set up Instadoor, an online business selling bi-folding doors and windows to builders and architects.

“When I was running Instadoor, I was working from home and I just had the family dog by my side all day,” he said.

After meeting other business owners through the Young Entrepreneurs Network he started Desk-co with a £4000 start-up loan.

“We’ve been a positive force for attracting people out of the woodwork," he added.

“The people that come through the door are from all walks of life, we’ve got a solicitor, we have people in PR, journalists, but also a lot of techies, people working with VR and AR.

“We have a solicitor here who you wouldn’t tell him apart from the web designer, they’re just all a great bunch of people."
