SWINDON was blessed with plenty of summer sunshine over the weekend.

Temperatures hovered just below 30 degrees so many people went out and about to take advantage of the lovely warm weather.

Coate Water is always a popular destination for a day out in the sun.

The park was full of guests walking their dogs, cycling along the paths, riding the min railway, feeding the ducks, and queuing for an ice cream.

Fran Fawkes relaxed on a bench with her daughter Erin and son Jack as they ate their sweet treats.

Fran said: "It's beautiful here today.

"We did some rock hunting, then had a picnic, went to the splash park and had a barbecue.

"It's nice to get out and enjoy the sun.

"Hopefully this isn't the last sunny day we'll have this summer."

The pay-and-display machines had broken, so every visitor to Coate Water got to park for free.

However, the water jets at the splash park also temporarily broke on Saturday, causing many families to leave disappointed, according to one witness.

The splash park had only just been repaired after breaking at the start of lastweek when the heatwave began, so to have it break again so soon proved frustrating.

Fortunately, it appeared to be fixed once again by Sunday afternoon,, as lots of little ones were spotted splashing in the cool water.

Margaret Jones came out to Coate Water with her husband, son and grandchildren.

She said: “We've been out in the sun most of the day.

"The grandchildren really enjoyed the splash park and they love birds so we fed the ducks.

"This is the first time I've been to Coate Water for three years, it's been a lovely day.

"The weather's amazing, you can't complain."

The Town Gardens were full of music as Swindon Brass Band performed a concert in the bandstand.

Linda Kasmaty and Barbara and Graham Crook watched their old friend Lynda Smith play the euphonium.

Linda K said: "I've known Lynda for at least 25 years and she's been in the band for 20 but this is the first time we've seen her play here.

"The Town Gardens are a wonderful place to go on a Sunday afternoon, especially in this weather.

"It has such a lovely atmosphere and it's fantastic to see people from multiple generations here together.

"The music is very relaxing and the band play so well together, it's really nice to sit and listen to it with friends."
