M4 drink-driver

COURT: A drink-driver has been disqualified after police who stopped her on the M4 and found she was twice the drink-drive limit. Dionne Hobbs, 34, of Howe Street, Newport, blew 73mg when she was breathalysed at Junction 16 on May 19. The legal limit is 35mg. Magistrates fined her £120 and ordered she pay £115 in costs and victim payments. She was also given a 19-month driving ban.

Television stolen

COURT: A thief must pay £150 in compensation to Tesco. Callum Sherry, 28, of Shrivenham Road, admitted taking a Sharp television worth £299 from the Ocotal Way store on May 16.

Driving ban

COURT: A drink-driver has been banned from holding a licence. Craig Thompson, 32, of Spencer Close, was found to be over the alcohol limit when he was stopped on Dorcan Way on May 19. A breathalyser test found 50 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35MG. He pleaded guilty. Magistrates banned him from driving for 14 months. Thompson was also fined £120 and must pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Assault admitted

COURT: Keith Williams, 52, of Elborough Road, Moredon, admitted assaulting a man and stealing £120-worth of alcohol from the town centre Sainsbury’s. Magistrates bailed him until July 16, when he is due back in court on other matters.

Unpaid work

COURT: Samuel Wilson, 18, of Kingsdown Road, has a year to finish 120 hours of unpaid work after he admitted assaulting another man. He was told to pay £160 compensation, costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge.
