Firefighters were busy yesterday afternoon and last night, tackling out-of-control bonfires and rescuing a baby locked in a bedroom.

LYDIARD: Conference centre staff helped Westlea firefighters find a blaze in a field at Lydiard Park.

The crew, who were called around 8pm on Thursday, used buckets of water to put out the rubbish fire.

RODBOURNE: A one-year-old child had to be rescued by firefighters after getting locked in a bedroom.

The Swindon fire station crew was called to Ford Street before 4pm on Thursday.

BLUSDON: A scrub blaze brought Stratton firefighters to Turnpike Road, near the A419, on Thursday evening.

A fire in a stretch of straw and scrub measuring 50m by 20m was put out using fire hoses and drags.

Crews were called shortly after 4.10pm.

PINEHURST: Reports of a bush fire near a cycle saw a crew from Swindon fire station sent to Pinehurst Road around 6.30pm on Thursday.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.
