MUSIC lovers baked under a sizzling Highworth sun for the fifth Wrde Up Festival.

A slew of top tribute bands and local acts kept the crowds entertained.

Steve Pealey, one of the organising committee members, said: “This is our fifth year and this year we’ve go tribute acts Earth Wind for Hire, Will Smith Experience and the Secret Police and of course we’ve got the amazing Highworth weather.

“Wrde Up is Highworth’s biggest garden party, welcoming people from Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett, Lechlade and the surrounding areas. This started as a community event, as a celebration for the junior football club. The whole ethos of the committee is to keep a community event to raise money for local good causes “

Ticket sales were up a fifth compared to the previous year, with organisers expecting 1,600 to come through the doors.

Locals and those from further afield said they were enjoying the fun and the family games.

Mum Caroline Burns, 42, from Devizes, smiled: “We’ve really enjoyed the festival. The weather has been hot, but there’s a nice breeze.”

Adele Newson, 34, from Highworth: “I’m enjoying the happy, family atmosphere. The children are safe, which means the adults are happy and relaxed.”

The music festival last year raised £4,000 for local good causes. This year, organisers have invited Highworth charities and groups to apply for funding from cash raised over the day.

Organiser Steve said: “We paid for the air cadets to have first aid training so if someone was to fall down with a heart attack in the town centre, cadets would know how to do CPR and save a life.”
