MAGISTRATES have given detectives extra-time to quiz a murder suspect.

The 24-year-old London man was arrested on Tuesday evening on suspicion of murder, after a pensioner was killed in a hit-and-run in Woodhall Park.

Legally, police have up to 96 hours to question him, after which they must either charge their suspect or release him.

Another man, 21, from Swindon, has also arrested on suspicion of murder. He was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The case is being handled by detectives from the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team.

Det Insp Jim Taylor said earlier this week: “My team are working tirelessly on this investigation which is making good progress.

“I'd like to thank those who have given us information so far and even though we have made two arrests I am still asking that anyone who saw the collision comes forward as it may be that they have that small detail which could help us get justice for the victim and his family."

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run on the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way on Sunday, July 8, at 8.50pm should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
