APPRENTICES at Swindon College were celebrated at an awards evening.

Employers, parents, carers, and Mayor Junab Ali visited the college to praise the hard work of the young students.

Their employers spoke glowingly about their work ethic, team spirit, and how well they integrated into the company and were supported by Swindon College assessors.

The winning students happily received certificates and trophies.

Owen Cheesley said: “I really like the people I work with at BMW and the staff and tutors at the college have been very helpful and supportive and I have gained excellent practical experience and theory knowledge.”

Gianluca Michienzi said: “I chose the apprenticeship route, as being slighter older than the average school leaver, I wanted to get into employment and be earning while I was training.

"My employer has supported and helped me all through my apprenticeship and I am so please to be working for him.”

Sacha Grant-Woodhouse said: “My tutors have been very supportive and are always on hand if I need any extra help.

"I am hoping to stay on with my present employer when m apprenticeship ends.”

Candice Walters said: “ I have always had an interest in property and wanted some hands-on experience and a qualification.

"I love being given responsibility by my manager and gaining lots of experience while I am learning.”

Cheryl Carvalho said: “My job has helped me to have an understanding about working in a school, and I am getting real life working experience in finance.”

Lorraine Groch, Vice Principal for external relationships hosted the ceremony.

She said: “Tonight was a great success and it was wonderful to hear all the positive comments from the Apprentice’s employers."

"We are very proud of all our Apprentices and their progress and dedication.

"We have heard some incredible stories of success.

"The range of apprenticeship programmes which we offer and the success stories that we have heard clearly demonstrates that there are pathways to progression for all.”
