DEMENTIA patients at the Seahorses Care Home got a special visit from author Lady Colin Campbell for the opening of the new Bobby Shaw Wing on the weekend.

The new wing will have 20 specially refurbished rooms and corridors with pictures of '50s movies star to help evoke memories in those with dementia.

Lady Colin Campbell, whose has written several autobiographers of members of the royal family, including Diana in Private: The Princess Nobody Knows, and most recently The Queens Marriage. She told the Adver: “I think it’s really beautiful and user friendly. It’s charming and very attractive and it evokes familiarity.

“The important thing with people who have dementia is that they need to be around things that they remember from the past.

“The mind may go with dementia but the capacity to feel and to feel loved and comfortable does not go. So it’s very important that they can be in an environment that is emotionally friendly. Which is why we’ve decorated the rooms to enhance that.”

Manager at Seahorses Care home Peter Coleman added: “It’s an opportunity for the local community to see a care home and understand that we’re part of the community and that our work is for the benefit of everyone.”
