PLANS for a new manege in the grounds of a historic Hannington property have been given the go-ahead.

The enclosed area used for training horses and riders will be built in a field at Hannington Hall on Queen’s Road.

It will be for the private use of the hall’s occupants.

The area will also include access for a quad-bike onto the field for maintenance.

No objections were raised from Swindon Borough Council’s conservation or highways departments.

However Chris Hand, vice chairman of Shrivenham Parish Council, objected to it because he argued there was already an existing farm gate which lead onto the field and the new one was bigger than one needed for a quadbike to enter and exit through.

This reason was not deemed serious enough to reject the plans.

Coun Toby Elliott said: “The green space is not in public use, so there would be no loss.

“There are no plans for stables on this site as far as I can see.

“I don’t see the harm in this application, it’s only for a flat piece of land where families will ride horses.”

The plans were unanimously approved.
