HOUSES built by Swindon Borough Council have been recognised as the best small new housing development.

Designed by the authority’s architect, the homes at Euclid Terrace, Euclid Street, are the first to be built and sold by the council on the open market as part of the it’s commercial building programme.

They are on the site of a former nursery and the income generated by the development will be used to support existing council services.

Welcoming the recognition from the Local Authority Building Control West of England Building Excellence Awards, cabinet member for finance Russell Holland said: “This is a small development, but highly significant being the first housing scheme delivered by our housing company, and I’m thrilled that it has received the recognition it deserves.

“This has set the benchmark for future council-built schemes and is a great way to start our commercial house building programme.”

The award celebrate technical design and construction skill excellence. Regional winners go forward to be judged in a national final in Westminster on November 9.
