EXPERT speakers will help employers improve mental wellbeing in the workplace at a conference in Swindon in October.

The Swindon Mindful Employer Network is celebrating its tenth conference this year and has invited a variety of speakers to talk on the theme “Inspiring mental wellness in the workplace”.

They include Dr Stuart Farrimond, a writer, presenter, and educator on health and science, who will talk with Graham Seaman of BBC Wiltshire about his own challenges with mental health, and Oliver Chittenden, founder of Head Talks, a non-profit organisation and platform that shares stories around mental health and wellbeing.

David Latham, co-founder and leader of the business network, said:“Mental health is now on the agenda for boardrooms and workplaces and I believe we have played a part in highlighting these important matters locally.

“This network has been active since 2008 and we have been amazed by its growth and growing reputation in the area”

Frances Mayes, from Public Health at Swindon Borough Council, who provide funding to the network, said: “Employees are an important asset and looking after their mental health and wellbeing is a cost-effective way of improving retention, productivity and reducing presenteeism.

“This conference will address some of these important workplace issues while providing a platform for business people to share their own personal experiences and challenges."

Other speakers include Geoff McDonald, the former vice president of Unilever and mental health campaigner, Mandy Rutter, a leader psychologist and public speaker, and the UK lead for Mindful Employer, Richard Frost, who was recently awarded an MBE for his services to mental health.

Swindon Marriott Hotel is hosting the event on October 8. Employers in Swindon and the surrounding area can attend and are being advised to book early in advance.
