THE Open Door Centre has to raise £10,000 in six weeks to launch a social enterprise cafe in Liden Library.

Swindon Community Library Trust has kindly offered the charity, which works with people who have learning disabilities, the chance to run the business in the library from October.

All profits made from the cafe, which will give charity members and volunteers a place to learn new skills which could lead to paid work, will help sustain the Open Door Centre.

The £10k they need will pay for vital equipment and for the wages of a cook who will also help oversee the project up to five days a week. All funding needs to be in place before September 1.

Pat Winning, Open Door’s deputy manager said: “This such an exciting opportunity for us.

“The people of Swindon have been so supportive of us, we feel lucky to be part of the Gorse Hill community, every penny helps."

The charity’s small cafe in St Barnabas Church hall will stay open on Friday mornings.
