Sarah Singleton looks at shows on at Swindon theatres this week

  • Chocolate Theatre brings its production of popular musical The Wedding Singer to Swindon Arts Centre this week.

Based on the the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer takes us back to an era of yuppies, big hair, tonic suits and ra-ra skirts - when the wedding singer was the coolest guy in the room. The musical’s sparkling score does for the 1980s what Hairspray did for the 60s.

Performances take place Thursday to Saturday at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16.

  • Enjoy an afternoon of Steam and Cream Teas at the Richard Jefferies Museum on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon till 5pm. Check out some vintage steam machinery and tuck into tasty scones at the free family event. Park your car at Coate Water.

  • Join a Memory Cafe in the Wyvern Theatre foyer today from 10.30am till 12 noon. The event is a relaxed facility where those living with Dementia, along with their carers, friends and families, can meet to talk, join in with various activities and listen to guest speakers, as well as chat with support workers, medical practitioners and advisors. Hot drinks and cake are provided.

  • Swindon Young Musicians, with some special guests, celebrate their end of year musical accomplishments with a Gala Concert at the Wyvern Theatre at 7.30pm tonight.

Tickets are £7, concessions £5.

  • Join the talented students of Fitzgraham Academy in an enchanting production of the well-loved classical ballet Coppelia and their very own Cirque D’Ete at the Wyvern Theatre on Saturday.at 2.30pm and 6pm.

Students across the age range, from as young as two up to adult students will perform in a variety of dance styles, including ballet, modern, tap, contemporary, lyrical, acro, commercial, drama, singing and musical theatre. Tickets are £18, or £14 for children.

  • Rock Choir LIVE, featuring Kerry Ellis and Laurence Jones, at the Wyvern Theatre on Sunday has sold out. The event, called Sing for Swindon, is in aid of Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal. It will be a spectacular display of uplifting, feel-good pop, rock and contemporary chart songs performed by the national phenomenon, Rock Choir, which began in 2005 and changed the landscape of choral singing.
