ALUN Rossiter hopes to see home talent shine when the Speedway Grand Prix series returns to the UK today.

Tai Woffinden arrives for this afternoon’s British Grand Prix leading the way in the current world championship standings.

Woffinden has won two of four GPs held so far in 2018 and is looking to make it a hat-trick of victories this year at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Swindon Robins boss Rossiter, who also serves as team manager of the Great Britain national side, will be a keen observer in the Welsh capital as three Brits will be competing in total.

Craig Cook is in the midst of his debut season at GP level, while youngster Robert Lambert qualified to race in Cardiff by virtue of being crowned British champion earlier this season.

Rossiter hopes all three can let their quality come to the fore in front of a buoyant crowd on the biggest stage of all in the sport.

“Putting my Great Britain hat on, it is really exciting to have three riders in it this year,” said Rossiter.

“Tai is flying high at the top, young Robert just won the latest Speedway Euro Championship meeting in Germany, and hopefully Craig can use the home crowd to turn a bit of a corner at this level.

“With a bit of luck, they will all put on a good show.”

The British Grand Prix is one of the highlights on the world championship calendar and Rossiter says it is a special day for all involved in speedway in the UK to see the best riders from across the globe compete on these shores.

“It is the pinnacle of British speedway,” said Rossiter.

“It is a great event and it’s at the best stadium in the world. It is always a special day for all of us in the sport.

“You have got all the shops and all the pubs and restaurants close by and the atmosphere builds up. It is second to none as an event in our sport, so it is something we’re very much looking forward to.

“It’s great to showcase British speedway like this – but now we need to get it right at home too.”
