POLICE dogs and a helicopter were called in to search for the driver of a car that crashed into three parked vehicles during the early hours of the morning.

A 44-year-old local man was located a few streets away where he was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He was taken to hospital with neck pain and later de-arrested by police while inquiries into the incident continue.

They were called after a silver coloured Seat Leon collided with three cars in Grange Drive, Stratton just before 1am on Saturday. The driver had got out and fled the scene.

PC Connor Crispin said: "A significant amount of damage was caused to the vehicles and will have a big impact on the shocked owners.

“It is thanks to local residents who gave us a detailed description of the suspect and the great teamwork by all officers involved in the search that we were able to quickly locate and arrest a suspect."

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident and has not yet come forward to contact PC Crispin on 101.
