MALMESBURY youngster Louis Harvey had to dig deep to deliver a flawless recovery drive in round four of the British Super One series at Shenington kart track in Oxfordshire.

After a weekend plagued with mechanical issues, Harvey found himself starting from last place in the final on a grid of 26 of the top Junior TKM drivers in the country.

In soaring temperatures Harvey knew he had his work cut out to try and recover something from his weekend, but the 12-minute race saw his grit and determination shine though as he overtook 17 of the other drivers to finish ninth overall.

Saturday saw Harvey struggle to match the pace of the other drivers in the practise sessions and, despite an engine and a carburettor swap, he only managed to achieve 22nd fastest in timed qualifying - at least half a second of the pace.

Heat one after another carburettor change saw him only able to make up one place to cross the line 21st.

With only an hour between heats the Klaassen Motorsport team and Harvey's father Chris dad virtually stripped the kart, only to see a repeat of the issues in heat two with Harvey starting 22nd and again only making up one place

A late-evening mechanical challenge, stripping the kart back to a bare chassis, replacing the entire braking system, exhaust, airbox, axle and a undertaking a full chassis jig followed and, entering into the first of the finals the team were hopefully that they had resolved the issues.

Starting from 24th on the grid, as the karts accelerated over the start line a loud bang was heard and Harvey's kart rolled to a stop on the second corner, a brand new spark plug having failed.

That pushed him to the back of the 26-strong grid for second final, but Harvey worked his way back up through the field to achieve a top-10 finish.

His next races will be the Rissington Club round, followed by the TKM festival at Kim Bolton.
