PLANS for a £3.6m sports centre in Moredon will be scrutinised by residents tonight.
A public meeting has been called to discuss planned sports facilities on the Moredon Recreation Ground, which have been developed by Swindon Borough Council with Sport England, British Cycling and the Football Foundation.
Council officers will attend the meeting together with staff-members from the sports organisations.
Cabinet members have already approved the plans, which will see a BMX pump track, cycle racing circuit, a 3G football pitch, more croquet lawns and improved cricket pitches built in the recreation ground.
A small portion of the site will be developed for housing by the council to help finance the project.
Jim Grant, Rodbourne Cheney ward councillor and leader of the Labour group, urged people to come along to the exhibition of the plans tonight: “They can find out what the project is, what’s proposed, if they’ve got any questions about what facilities will be on offer.”
Coun Mary Martin, then cabinet member for communities, said earlier this year: “I am really pleased we have come up with a scheme which opens up the land for recreational use once more."
The plans will be on display at Moredon Community Centre tonight, Thursday, July 27, from 7pm.
