PARENTS at a charity pre-school in Eldene have praised the efforts of staff at a local waste company that cleared a pile of waste from their playground for free.

Eldene pre-school and Toddlers had the 10 cubic metres of waste removed, including an old slide and wooden fencing, by the JL Waste Removal as a goodwill gesture, saving the charity-run school a bill of £365.

Workers from the firm spent a morning removing waste from the school. Ordinarily, JL Waste Removal will charge clients £265 to take away 10 cubic metres of waste, with a morning's labour charged at £100. But the generous firm took away the waste free of charge.

Natalie Haddrell, a parent on the school PTA, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you because we couldn’t have done that without them. Parents had been trying to remove some of the waste, but they only had small cars. It has helped us out massively. We’re very grateful for their support."

John Linstead, who owns JL Waste Removal, told the Advertiser: “It was a full truck load and took two guys a few hours to move everything.

“When they said they were a charity I just said, leave it with us, and we’ll see what we can do.

"We’re a small company so we’ve not got a lot of money to throw about I just think if everybody helped each other out more the world would be a better place.”

John also provided raffle prizes and gifts for the tombola to go towards raising money for the school. The money the school saved on the waste will go towards new play equipment for children next year.
