Shut up and put up

I USED to be a regular scribe over the years to this paper but ceased quite a while ago.

But the so-called democratics who voted for the true people of this land to finally cast off the yolk of the EU and go it alone are now being stabbed in the back.

The decision was made and passed accordingly by the people, for the people. So I say to you pathetic Remainers to swallow your pride and, as a united nation, make this land great again, instead of trying to split it up and use the PM as the sacrificial goat.

I have said it once and I say it again, we are an island race and English, not Europeans. Big business money will not change the true blood that has existed for a thousand years.

...or let us vote again

CAN the mess that is presently Brexit get any worse?

The EU has today told Theresa May her plan to collect customs duty on behalf of the EU is a non-starter. Those students of these things will understand this kills stone dead the whole present Government proposal, sadly to the unabashed glee of the hard line ‘wreckiteer’ fringe.

Because it’s our decision to leave and the EU wants us to stay, it has always been self-evident that agreement will need to be on their terms. There is one other option. Britain could stop and think again.

The reality of a future divorced from the 27 European nations will be slower growth, weak investment and a cut in living standards.

Even the foul aftertaste of the anti-migrant campaign has ended by biting us in the rear end, with the UK having to go cap in hand to India and Pakistan to replace health professionals returning to the EU in droves - incidently, doctors and nurses who are much needed in the subcontinent.

The doyen of the hard right, Jacob Rees-Mogg, is now suggesting no benefit may accrue for 50 years! Although he is moving his business to Ireland to protect his clients’ future interests. What about our interests Jacob?

It’s well known the overwhelming majority of MPs believe Brexit will harm the nation’s security and prosperity. However, it looks like they will be forced to vote for what they know in their hearts will be a damaging crash out of the EU, simply to keep out a Corbyn government.

Edmund Burke, hero to Conservative politicians, stated of the over-riding duty of a Member of Parliament: “Your representative owes you not his industry only but his judgement and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion”. Even Churchill said an MP’s first duty is to do what he thinks is right and necessary for the country.

It’s too late to unpick Cameron’s ‘consultative’ referendum, but not too late for politicians to allow voters a final choice based now on facts and not both sides’ previous fictions. With the Government split and the nation hopelessly divided, it may now be the only way forward?
