MORE than £90,000 has been invested into improving Liden, Nythe and Eldene playgrounds.

New equipment will be installed at each of the five parks in the parish to provide something for youngsters, teens and adults of all ages to enjoy.

Parish councillor and Deputy Mayor of Swindon Kevin Parry is overseeing the improvements and additions.

He said: “I’m really pleased and excited about this.

“I’ve got children myself and there was a time when was no play equipment for them around here

“Finding a way to provide that was actually what got me into politics.

“Liden Green was originally paid for with S106 money and help from Play England, who insisted on it being for older children only.

“What we’ve decided to do is invest a lot of money into the parish to achieve a good balance of play equipment for younger and older children, and exercise equipment for adults.

“So we’ve refreshed and added new equipment for younger kids at Liden Green, older kids at Nythe Green, and exercise equipment for adults at the Eldene park by the doctor’s.

“If this equipment is well-looked after, we should have the funds to add similar adult equipment to Nythe Green and Liden Green.

“We also plan on adding equipment to the Richard Jeffries Park by Shaftesbury Lake, which is aimed at older children. and Snodshill, which is for under-10s.

“Residents have been crying out for this for many years, their feedback has been fantastic.

“We started working on this back in April to get it ready for the summer holidays.”
