Coate Water Roundabout will be closed for more than a week at nights while resurfacing and relining work.

The work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am from Monday, 20 August to Friday, 31 August, excluding the August bank holiday weekend.

There will be a full closure of the roundabout from all approaches, with no access to Coate Water Country Park.

The £300,000 improvement project will involve the resurfacing and relining of the roundabout.

Coun Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and the Environment, said: “We have done all we can to ensure that these important improvement works do not cause too much inconvenience for drivers.

“The works are necessary in order to replace the current road lining, which is very badly worn.

“The Coate Roundabout is a very busy junction and we realise that road closures may cause problems, which is why we are carrying out the work at night to minimise disruption.

“We thank people for their patience while the diversions are in place and we look forward to seeing the road surface greatly improved once the works are complete.”

Signposted diversion routes will be in place and emergency vehicles will still be able to access the Great Western Hospital at all times, though other vehicles will have to follow the diversion routes to access GWH.

Arrangements will also be made to maintain access to businesses adjacent to the roundabout.
