A MAN has been airlifted to Southmead Hospital after suffering a fall.

Believed to be in his 50s, the man fell ill on an upper floor of flats off Highworth Road, Stratton.

Firefighters from Stratton Fire Station responded to the call shortly after 6pm on Sunday evening, together with the Great Western Air Ambulance’s critical care paramedics and doctors.

The air ambulance helicopter took off from the Rat Trap pub car park at around 8.05pm, taking the injured man to Bristol.

Tom Brolan, watch manager at Stratton Fire Station, said his crews had been called to help paramedics get the patient out of the block of flats. The aerial appliance from Swindon Fire Station was also called to help with the rescue.
