Poor light, heavy rain, standing water and spray are making driving conditions difficult in Swindon and Wiltshire this morning.

Despite sunrise before 6am, low cloud mean it's still very gloomy, and rain has been falling for hours, meaning the roads are wet, often with large pools or patches of standing water.

The rain will continue to be heavy, according to the Met Office until this afternoon.

As the weather system moves east across the country, Swindon should experience sunshine with the temperature reaching a pleasant 18 degrees Celsius.

Friday is expected to be dry with some high cloud and temperatures in the high teens and the forecast for the weekend is for the mercury to reach 20 or 21 degrees and a low probability of rain.

The heatwave is truly over. Please take care on the roads
