OVER 200 calls were made yesterday to 999 by motorists to report a fire on the M4.
Four crews from Swindon, Chippenham, Westlea and Stratton were mobilised to extinguish two grass fires that had spread either side of the motorway.
A call to report this incident at junction 16 was first put in at 15:59.
The blaze had spread covering 150 metres of the area.
It took the firefighters over an hour and 30 minutes to put the fire out as they used a number of hose reels and beaters to put out the fire.
