SWINDON Town manager Phil Brown plans for any incoming loan deals to be tied up ahead of the final day that clubs in the Football League can draft in fresh faces.

Clubs have until Friday, August 31, to confirm the signings of either free agents or loan players following the full transfer deadline last Thursday.

Brown has made no secret of his intention to attract one – possibly two – players from the loan market, adding that he’s actively talking to three players – including Shrewsbury winger Abo Eisa.

His involvement in the window occurs amid the manager's plan to develop competition for every team spot on the pitch, something which he believes will boost the club’s work ethic both on and off the pitch.

Brown, whose side host Tranmere Rovers in League Two at the Energy Check County Ground this afternoon (3pm), said: “I’ve still got three (players) on the go out of the four I was chasing.

“I’d like it not to go down to the last day. Regardless of who’s playing on Saturday, I want there to be pressure on players in every position.

“Whoever is playing on Saturday needs to have somebody behind them so when they look over their shoulder they understand that they’ve got to go forward with the way the team plays.

“With a clean sheet and a win, I’d struggle to change the centre backs – especially after our start.”

It’s been a summer of change for Swindon Town with Brown adding nine fresh faces to his squad while parting with 11.

A further two additions would mean Town could boast the same number of players in the squad compared to the end of last season, despite having their budget dramatically cut.

With fans still calling for a fresh face at centre back, Brown continued to underline the importance of waiting for the correct man to come along.

He said: “It’s not about bringing one or two in, it’s about bringing in someone that knows what defending is all about.

“That will add to the mentality of the group. For example, involving Marc (Richards) adds to the mentality of the group, involving James (Dunne) does the same.

“I didn’t have window of opportunity at the end of last season, which is why the DNA of the team was not mine.

“But I’m absolutely in claims to the DNA of this team at this moment in time, because of the players that have left and those that have come in.

“That prompts the question ‘are there any more due in?’. I’ll be pushing as much as I can.

“The average fan that watched the game on Tuesday night can see that there’s a fundamental flaw in the team, there’s a mistake in the team.

“And I’ve got to eradicate that mistake as best as I can.”
