THE more we hear about the University of the West of England's proposals for the centre of Swindon, the more we like them.
Bringing such a campus to this location would provide benefits on a multiplicity of levels. Perhaps most importantly, our best young people would feel more inclined to remain here and bring their talents to local industry.
In addition, having a campus here would dramatically raise the academic profile of the whole area, improving our chances of receiving more Government investment.
Businesses of all kinds would benefit from the presence of more young people, and the proposal also has the advantage of not encroaching on any of our green areas.
The only other thing anybody could ask is that development proceeds on Swindon's terms rather than anybody else's, thereby eliminating a stumbling block that has bedevilled such projects in the past.
