Pupils get taste of life in boardroom

SCHOOLCHILDREN turned into young businessmen and women as part of an enterprise day.

The teenagers took part in the event and put forward their plans to local companies.

Forty-nine youngsters from Ridgeway School, St Joseph's Catholic College and Churchfields School worked to set up mock companies with the aim of creating a successful youth centre in Swindon.

The model used for the event was The Platform, the new youth centre being built in the former railway museum.

The event was held at Steam and was the first in a series being organised by the Swindon Strategic Economic Partnership.

Rikki Hunt, the chairman of the SSEP, said: "This was a good way to get the students really involved in the business world.

It gave them the opportunity to challenge themselves in a practical way.

Rebecca Lloyd, 14, from Ridgeway School said: "The experience we gained was valuable. We worked hard and put together some good ideas."

The winning team from Churchfields School was chosen after the schools had presented their ideas to the people present.

They will receive £250 to spend on an enterprise project at their school.
