CRICKLADE’S new playground has been officially opened – and it was test driven by children on their last day of term.

The Bath Road facility was opened yesterday and youngsters from St Sampson’s Primary School put it through its paces.

Sue Webb, Cricklade Town Council clerk, said the project went ahead after the authority bagged a £60,000 Lottery grant to finance the new play equipment.

Sue said: “We carried out a public consultation with questionnaires, asking where they would like a new play area and it was favoured to replace the one that was already there.

“It’s situated in a quiet small residential area in Bath Road and adjacent to the junior school.

“On the opposite side there is a playgroup and they could utilise it too. There are cradle swings, a tyre swing and several roundabouts for at least two for different age groups as well as a slide.

“Kids were loving it. We chose today because it was the last day of term so all the teachers brought the children over.”
