Seniors enjoy seaside-themed garden party

RESIDENTS at Quarry Mount Residential Home enjoyed a taste of the seaside with a themed garden party.

The 32 residents aged between 70 and 90 soaked up some rare sunshine at the residential home in Bath Road, Old Town, on Thursday.

The annual event is an opportunity for friends and family to enjoy a day with residents with food and entertainment.

Home manager Karen Meadowcroft said the day was a huge success.

“The residents certainly enjoyed it and it was nice to make the most of what little sunshine we had.

“The way the weather has been at the moment you never know when it’s going to be a nice day, you have to make the most of the sun while it lasts.”

The group enjoyed music from a ukulele band and a club singer while eating sandwiches and cake.

The event was the tenth in Quarry Mount’s 30-year history and was complete with bunting and seaside picture boards.

The residential home has 28 places for residents in its main building with bungalows in the grounds for more independent residents.

“The party was just a chance for the residents to socialise, not just with each other but with each others families as well,” said Karen.

“Not all our residents have families so it is nice for them to spend some time with others.”
