Cricklade Show cancelled

6:59pm Thursday 21st August 2008

THIS weekend’s Cricklade Show has been called off following a week of rain.

Unseasonal downpours have left the field in Chelworth Road waterlogged, and forced organisers to cancel the Bank Holiday Monday event.

The cancellation follows other major events including the Royal International Air Tattoo being called off because of poor weather.

The show was expecting to see hundreds of horses, dogs and other animals competing in different disciplines.

Cricklade show marketing secretary Kellie Moss said: “We had a meeting at the show ground with the land owner and unfortunately it has just been too wet.

“With all the people and lorries coming on to the land it would just get completely destroyed when it is already wet.

“We plan all year round. As soon as the show finished in August, we start planning the next one so this has been a year in the making.

“It is really disappointing to have to cancel it at so late a stage. It is a real shame for all the competitors that have already entered and all the local people who were planning to come down.

“Because it is such a big event it would be impossible to postpone it, so we are just going to have to try and make sure it doesn’t happen again next year.”

Organisers were out busily putting up posters and flyers to warn people the event was cancelled yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Cricklade Town Council said: “The organisers came in this morning and asked us to tell everyone it has been cancelled.

“It has been called off because of the weather, the whole field is waterlogged unfortunately. It’s a real shame.”

Competitors or anyone wanting more information should visit the show website www.crickladeshow.co.uk.

Such a shame when lots of hard work goes in, but spare a thought for these veterans. PC world gone mad, from Mail.

Veterans' parade cancelled due to 'lack of facilities' but gay pride march goes ahead

By Chris Brooke

War veterans who had to abandon plans for a parade after a lack of official support are furious that councillors gave their backing to other marches.

Councillors in Doncaster were involved in a gay pride march at the weekend. And dignitaries were the focal point of the annual civic parade.

But when the Royal British Legion approached officials, they were told their event could not be staged because of a 'lack of amenities'.

The organisers of the Uffington Show must be rubbing their hands with glee, all those folk from Cricklade who get an adrenalin rush when looking at varying breeds of animals will be able to get their annual fix over two days a few miles up the road! Every cloud... as they say!

Malkym what pray did you say, I saw the other post. perhaps you could email me. The site has become somewhat sensitive of late, I think may have had something to do with the criticism's levelled when it was first launched.

Surely not retaliation.?
