Children across town have been enjoying some holiday fun.

Walcot Dome has staged a week of creative activity and children in Gorse Hill had a whale of a time at a families’ fun festival.

The event at the Dome offered a range of different activities, including playing with teddy bears, planting flowers and painting.

Joan Woods, who was one of those who organised the events, said: “It’s for kids to come and enjoy themselves.

“Five weeks holiday is a long time for kids, so this kept them amused and kept them from getting bored.

“A total of 24 children were there twice a week. And they all seemed to enjoy it.”

Older children also improved the area by picking up litter and artwork completed by the youngsters during the week has been displayed inside the Dome.

At the Gorse Hill families’ fun festival, children and parents tried a wide range of activities.

Organiser Caroline Harris-Hammond said: “It went really well. It was really nice for parents to have a chance to enjoy themselves with their children.

“The holidays can be quite stressful so it is nice for them to do some different activities.

“They have been making card, painting and making lanterns for Coate Water.

“They have also had dancing lessons, learning the mambo and salsa.”

Caroline organised similar events in Moredon, Rodbourne Cheney and Penhill to keep youngsters amused during the holiday.

The events were run with the help of Behaviour Education Support and funding from Swindon Council.

“Everybody had a good time at all the events and we had some really good feedback from the earlier events too,” said Caroline.

“This was better than a holiday club because it gave parents the chance to get involved with their children too.”
