VISITORS to Calne Leisure Centre will soon be able to scale new heights.
The centre has bought a £35,000, six-metre high climbing wall, thanks to a grant from North Wiltshire District Council.
And it will be available to the public from Monday.
The climbing wall will help provide a wider range of facilities at the leisure centre and promises to offer a challenge for beginners through to more advanced climbers.
The main part of the wall is a roped climbing area, 14m wide and six metres high and is being installed in a disused squash court.
The wall has been installed by the Beacon Climbing Centre, based in the Snowdonia National Park.which build climbing walls as well as running a busy climbing centre for visitors.
Anita Hodgeson, the manager of Calne Leisure Centre, said: “We are really looking forward to the climbing wall being ready to open to the public.
“The funding from North Wiltshire District Council means we have been able to turn one of our little used squash courts into a challenging climbing wall and provide something that is not available anywhere else locally.
“This would not have been possible without the grant from North Wiltshire District Council and we are grateful for their support in making this project a reality.
The Lead Member for Leisure at North Wiltshire District Council, Coun Viv Vines, said: “The climbing wall provides a unique facility at the Calne Leisure Centre.
“The team there are to be congratulated in planning for the future by providing even more facilities that will attract visitors to this thriving sports centre that has now become a real asset to the whole community of Calne.”
More information about Calne Leisure Centre can be found on their website at www.calneleisurecentre.co.uk.
