OLD TOWN was made spick and span thanks to Thursday’s safe and clean day.

Residents joined a multi-agency team and removed nearly 200 graffiti tags.

Cleaners collected 37 bags of litter and three people received a ticking-off for dropping cigarette butts.

About half a tonne of fly tipping waste was removed and three homes received letters about rubbish in their gardens.

The team also examined 10 businesses to check they were not putting trade waste into domestic collections.

Two dog walkers were advised about fouling and 15 car owners were given parking tickets.

What a sad state of affairs that an exercise like this had to take place. People don't seem to have much pride in their surroundings these days.

I always brought my children up to put rubbish in a bit or their pocket to take home if they couldn't find one and they still do it now they are grown up.

Well done those people who helped.

Silvergran, I am bringing my lot up to do the same. I think it's really important to teach kids to have pride in their appearance and surroundings and also to treat their world with respect.

All paraise and the power of good to those who organised and took part in this part of the town wide scheme.

However I cannot fail to notice the LACK of scathing insulting comments that accompanied reports of the same clean up scheme when it took place in other areas of Swindon.
