Why not get on your bike?

A NEW scheme to encourage people with mental health issues to get on their bikes will be launched on Monday.

To mark the start of World Mental Health Week, CTC’s Cycle Champions Project in Swindon is launching Windswept On Wheels, which aims to encourage anyone with mental health issues to experience cycling first hand.

Tamina Oliver, CTC’s cycle champions officer in Swindon, said: ”Cycling is good for you, in all sorts of ways: it gets your heart and lungs going and keeps your body healthy.”

The launch takes place at the County Ground Athletics Track, between 11am and 12.30pm. Visit www.ctc.org.uk.

Accepted that it is a healthy pursuit, but does it aid Mental Health treatment.

If they are riding on the roads around Swindon they will be so stressed out by the high volumes of traffic that it will do more harm than good.

Depends what typre of mental health issue they have really, if prone to unpredictable behaviour, is it the safest answer to encourage them to take to busy roads on a bike? As JC said our roads are very busy and stressful and it can be a dangerous place for expert and experienced bike riders. So I am not sure about this idea.

I could make a comment about how we could pull up a chair and watch them cycling round the magic roundabout for some light entertainment etc.

But I won't because that would be really bad and insensitive of me.

Out evil thoughts! Out!
