Three Dorcan Technology College football teams travelled to Chippenham’s Stanley Park on a frosty Wednesday in December. There were two girl’s teams, the U13’s and the U16’s team, as well the boys U13 team.

The games were all due to kick of at 2pm so we had enough time for everyone to have a team talk and get prepared in the changing rooms.

The year 8 (Under 13) boys played extremely well on a muddy pitch against Sheldon School, especially the defence who won everything in the air, and Joe Broadbank with his long powerful balls. He set Jamie Stones up to score the first goal, 1-0 Dorcan.

The Dorcan team were awarded a penalty after Christy Millar was tripped in the area. He picked himself up to score, 2-0 Dorcan. Will Miller was called upon to make some good saves but was beaten by a good Sheldon attack. The rest of the game provided excitement with Dorcan being awarded another penalty which was again scored by Christy Millar. Sheldon continued to force attacks and scored again. The final result was Dorcan 3, Sheldon School 2.

The under 13 girl’s team were extremely fired up as they had won their previous rounds comfortably. Their opponents, South Wilts Grammar, were strong, with two players who played football at a high standard throughout the game. Michaela Vitale, the Dorcan goalkeeper played extremely well with a series of excellent saves to keep Dorcan in the game. Dorcan took the lead but South Wilts Grammar equalised before the end of the game. With the score 1-1 at the end of play, the game went to extra time. A disputed hand ball decision was given against Dorcan which caused a Dorcan goal to be disallowed. A late goal gave South Wilts Grammar a win. It was 2-1 to South Wilts Grammar at the final whistle, but well done to the Dorcan team for a strong game.

The Under 16 girl’s team were awarded a win after their opposition failed to arrive.
