CHIPPENHAM Town Council has agreed to freeze its rate of tax and councillors’ allowances.

The council tax for 2009/10 is likely to remain the same as that charged in 2008/9, which works out at £143.08 for a Band D property.

A spokesman for Chippenham Town Council said: “This policy decision had been taken in response to the current problems in the wider economy and would be implemented without reducing the standard of services due to the level of reserves built up in recent years.

“During difficult economic times, it was recognised that those on fixed incomes could struggle to pay any increase.”

Well come on Swindon surely if Chippenham can manage without an increase in council tax then we should be able to.

The service is getting worse so why should we pay more and more for it?

Mind you I wouldn't be holding my breath on this one.
