ROCKER Pete Doherty has swapped his Marlborough cottage for a new pad in Chiseldon.

The Babyshambles frontman was condemned for trashing the Earl of Cardigan’s cottage in the upmarket town, leaving it looking like a squatter’s haven.

But the Earl of Cardigan is still on good terms with the singer and has allowed him to rent a 10-bedroom farmhouse, in Chiseldon, for £3,000-a-month.

Doherty’s new neighbours now fear Kate Moss’ ex will throw “wild parties” at Parsonage Farm following a string of complaints about his behaviour by former neighbours in Marlborough.

New neighbour Eileen Rolfe, 62, said: “I really hope our quiet village isn’t turned into a drugs den when he moves here.

“I have heard that he is into that but I hope he has put that behind him.

“This is a quiet village where not a lot happens and everyone is content and living peacefully.

“I don’t object to him setting up home here but I really hope that he doesn't disturb the peace with parties.

''When people have the raves in the nearby village of Wanborough, the noise travels to our road and beyond.

“It can be distracting so if he does hold the parties he is famous for we will hear it.”

But other residents are excited about having a new ‘celebrity’ neighbour.

Morag Baxter, 67, said: “I didn’t know that he was moving here. How exciting if only I was younger I would be invited to his parties!

“I have never lived near someone famous before I am sure he will be fine and even if he does have parties I doubt we will be affected. I can’t see that he will be any hassle, I am quite looking forward to meeting him.”

And despite his wild antics, some former neighbours sang the rebel’s praises.

Mum-of-one Laura Sinclair, 44, said he made her and her six-year-old daughter Lilly feel welcome after they moved to the area.

She said: “He has been so lovely to us. I don’t know why people say nasty things about him because he isn’t like that.

“We never have any trouble from Pete. We never hear any noise and whenever we have seen him he has been really hospitable.

“A few months ago his cat had kittens and he invited me and Lilly to go and have a look and play with them. He has lots of cats.”

Doherty, 30, insists he is now off hard drugs.
