A SWINDON company is thrilled its kitchen sink will take centre stage alongside actor Martin Clunes in TV series Doc Martin.

RCM Catering Equipment has supplied the restaurant kitchen, which will be seen in Bert’s restaurant in the fourth series of the popular ITV drama.

A gas cooker, stainless steel fridges and freezers, benches and even a potato peeling machine have all been delivered to Port Isaac in Cornwall for the filming.

It is the second taste of fame for the specialist company, having had its goods appear in the last series about the curmudgeonly doctor.

Finance director Jo Ratcliffe said: “I watch the show and think ‘there is our stuff on the telly’. The show is quite funny and the area where it is set is beautiful. Supplying the kitchen is quite a fun aspect as a lot of the equipment isn’t plugged in or even set up to work.”

Filming got under way this month and RCM was delighted to be asked back.

Jo said: “We first got involved with the producers of Doc Martin in 2007 when we provided a catering kitchen which featured in series three. Everything went very well back then so we were naturally delighted when they contacted us again this year looking for catering equipment to be used on-set in series four.

“It’s easy to forget about the kudos aspect of supplying equipment to a high-profile contract such as Doc Martin once the equipment has left Swindon and has been shipped down to the film set.

“It is quite rewarding though when the series is actually broadcast a couple of months later and equipment and appliances supplied by our company suddenly start to appear on the TV screen.”

The show sees Clunes playing Portwenn’s local GP, Martin Ellingham. He was once a London surgeon until he developed a fear of blood that put him off carrying out operations.

Much of the plot focuses on Ellingham’s awkward relationship with villagers as he lacks social skills. The last series peaked with nine million viewers.
