RADIO 1 presenter Aled Haydn Jones will be offering festival goers a break from Big Weekend excitement in a special chill out tent.

The popular radio personality, who presents The Surgery at 10pm every Sunday on Radio 1 and produces the Chris Moyles breakfast show during the week can’t wait for the weekend.

This weekend’s festival in Lydiard Park will feature a tent mirroring The Surgery where young people can go and chat about any problems.

Aled said: “I am really excited and am a bit of a kid at the moment. This is the first year The Surgery has had its own tent. I’m so chuffed it is with me.

“A lot of excitement has grown for The Surgery recently. The amount of people willing to talk on Radio 1 about their problems is humbling.”

With six zones in the tent, people can take part in a question and answer session hosted by Aled on stage, chill out with a massage or Tai Chi and talk to doctors.

There will also be a gigantic map of Swindon, which people can express their feelings on by sticking smiley or sad faces on their areas.

“I’m hoping most of them will be smiley,” said Aled, who hails from Wales.

The 33-year-old is already starting to get to know Swindon residents after searching out look alikes of next weekend’s line-up in the town centre on Saturday.

The Surgery tent is open from noon to 6pm, but Aled is hoping to snatch a peek at the bands, and is looking forward to The Saturdays, Lily Allen and The Prodigy.

“I’m going to try and see as much of the line-up as possible,” he said.

“To see The Saturdays on stage will feel like they have grown so much.

“It will also be interesting to see new bands on the In New Music We Trust stage”

Aled will be doing question and answer sessions with Dr Mel, Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJs and artists, including Alesha Dixon and Fightstar. The nearby BBC Switch zone will have sumo matches with DJs and acts taking part.

Snow Patrol, Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand and Dizzee Rascal are some of the huge acts billed to play this weekend.
