A PARTY that is fighting for an English parliament, a national holiday on St George’s Day and a complete withdrawal from the European Union, wants your vote.
The English Democrats are fielding six candidates for the election on June 4 and are aiming to take their place alongside other euro-sceptic parties in the EU parliament.
Michael Turner is the party’s lead candidate for the South West.
He said: “We are not a racist party – all we want to do is protect the English way of life.
“We don’t have a parliament for England and this has a huge effect on people’s lives. If you go to get a prescription you have to pay a charge – not in Scotland. If your child wants to go to university you will be saddled with debt unlike in Scotland. But even if your child went to university in Scotland they would have to pay because they are English.
“We should have a parliament in England working for England.”
Immigration is another topic of concern to English Democrats.
Mr Turner said: “The BNP talk in their simplistic and fascist way of ‘sending everyone back home’. We recognise that this is their home. As a party we accept these people. But we have to accept that there is a problem.
“We want an end to mass immigration – our infrastructure just can’t cope. We would look to a freeze on immigration, except where it is on humanitarian grounds.”
The party is also adamant that St George’s Day should be a national holiday.
Mr Turner said: “In Wales they celebrate St David’s Day, St Andrew’s Day is an official bank holiday in Scotland but what do we do for St George’s Day? We spend more time celebrating St Patrick’s Day.”
The English Democrats say they would take their seats on the European Parliament and would work to withdraw Britain from the UK from the inside. They would vote to rejoin European Free Trade Association (EFTA) , which they claim would guarantee free trade with the EU but free Britain from EU political rule and save £63 billion per year.
They are keen to push for a referendum on the UK’s continued involvement with the EU.
